Prior to joining Caulkins & Bruce, Cloyd Smith served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Richard Gardiner of Fairfax Circuit Court. During law school, Cloyd served as the President of Students for Public Interest Law, and participated in National Trial Team and Moot Court. He also volunteered at the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C., and the Veteran’s Legal Clinic. Cloyd interned at the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, DC; the Public Defender’s Office Alexandria, VA; and the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office in Arlington, VA.
Prior to law school Cloyd served in the United States Army. During his more than twenty years of service he led men and women in the United States, Germany, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cameroon, and Burkina Faso. After retirement, Cloyd knew he needed a second career where he could make a difference in the lives of the people with whom he interacted.
